A digital intraoral scan allows for more precise, more three-dimensional results in a significantly shorter time compared to traditional impression taking. The digital workflow already starts in the patient's mouth with data taken directly from the patient, which control the entire production process and ultimately deliver an excellent result.
But which intraoral scanner is the right one?
The market offers a multitude of different solutions and it's hard to keep track in the jungle of intraoral scanner products. A group of international experts has now examined the current systems based on the most important criteria.
Amongst others, the following criteria were compared:

- Handling
- Scanner size
- Ease of use
- Investment costs
- Other costs
- Autoclavable scanner tip
- System with or without touchscreen
- Wired or cordless system
- Integrated CAD/CAM design functions
The test candidates included industry giants such as the 3Shape Trios® 4, the CEREC Primescan from Dentsply Sirona and, of course, the Medit i500, which we offer as DiOS 4.0 with a complete instant start package. We also tested lesser known systems such as iTERO® from Align, a company best known for its clear aligner splint for tooth correction.
