Nesting (/ˈnɛstɪŋ/):  When used in the field of dental CAD/CAM, the term nesting describes how the CAD designs are positioned in the milling blank. The aim is to use the blank surface in an ideal way that saves space. Bars and sinter supports are set and undercuts are both visualized and optimized.

Multilayer Nesting – what you see is what you get.

Nesting is particularly important when processing multilayer blanks. Transferring the layering diagram into the nesting software (CAM software or Exocad “In-CAD Nesting Module”) allows you to visualize the color gradient of the crowns and bridges. This allows you to plan better and supports the work process on the screen. It ensures that you have full control over the brightness value and color intensity of crowns and bridges in the anterior and posterior region.

Laboratories that cannot produce these in-house can use the Exocad “IN-CAD Nesting Module” to transmit the positioning information to a milling center. A corresponding interface is needed to import the values into the milling partner’s CAM software.

Basis for natural and aesthetic color gradients:
Our blanks.

Our multilayer ZrO2 ceramics imitate the opacity, color and translucency of dentin and enamel. The infinitely variable color gradient and the increase in translucency from cervical to incisal also allow veneer-free constructions in the aesthetically-sensitive anterior region. For each VITA® multilayer color we offer, we have also developed a unique color system for the various layers, matched to the underlying dentin color. During the sintering process, the individual layer transitions are additionally dampened by diffusion processes of the color additives. The result is a natural aesthetic with a flowing color transition.

Realistic translucency and color that decrease in the correct ratio.

The increasing color intensity from incisal to cervical simultaneously reduces the translucency of the material to a defined degree. In this way, beautiful results are achieved by simple glazing. For a highly aesthetic finish, we recommend using the DD contrast® stains and structural paste system.

DD Multilayer blanks consist of five main layers. The decisive factor for a top blank is coordinating chemistry and crystal size in the layers. Our concept guarantees the best mechanical properties, homogeneous sinter shrinkage and uniform CTE over all layers for safe, and aesthetically pleasing patient care.
